Al-Qaeda promotes attack on Israeli delegation to Rio through social media
Al-Qaeda has been using social media to call for an attack on the Israeli delegation to the Olympic Games in Rio. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that a terror cell suspected of planning a terror attack for the Olympic Games was arrested in Brazil.
Several international media outlets reported today (Thursday) that Al-Qaeda has been using social media to post calls to harm Israeli athletes during the Olympics Games, which will start next month in Rio.
“Our aim is to see the Jewish Israelis flying in the air with their vehicles, as is the will of Allah,” the terror organization wrote after also calling to harm athletes from the UK, the US and France – but the Israeli delegation to Rio 2016 is at the top of its list of targets.
“A small attack at this arena with one knife would have a larger media impact than all the other attacks,” one of Al-Qaeda’s posts read. “Your opportunity to take part in global jihad has arrived! Your chance of becoming Shahids has arrived!”
Meanwhile, Reuters News Agency reported that according to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, local police arrested several people today who are suspected of planning terror attacks at the Olympic Games. “It is unclear where the terror attack was planned to take place, as are some other details regarding the attack,” a source from the Brazilian Justice Ministry told Reuters.
